Youth For Liberty camp 2014, Day 2.

Here we go, into the second installment of the hit series, YFL camp! =D

Chadwick went and got sick last night, so he's gone home, he said he'd come back if he could. We'll see. =/

I guess i forgot to mention yesterday that i'm in the cabin with all the wee squatty lads, (the younger boys cabin) which doesn't make much sense, as i'm 15 and Austin's 14, yet he's with the older boys. Not that i'm complaining, at least this cabin doesn't smell of Axe... =D

I got up at six to go to the early morning class, i got there late cause i opted to shower before going. It was interesting...

We had our two split up classes, which were fun, but would've been better with my friends. Not that we pass notes or comment or anything like that.... =D

Then we got back together (huzzah!!!!!!!!!) for a class by Farley Anderson. (the same guy as yesterday, just a different class) He taught on the Book of Revelation, and it was a pretty cool class.

Then lunch.

After lunch we had recreation, so about fifteen minutes of sitting around, and thirty of mafia, then the obstacle course!! That was fun. I don't remember all the obstacles, (kidding, i do, but i don't feel like writing them down at the moment) but my favourite, was the rope cross over the "baptismal font". (just like last year, i must like ropes and water crossings i guess.... =)

Oh, fun fact: i had a shirt that i picked out to wear each day, and darn if everyone else were wearing their camp shirts. i was wearing the one i'd picked out.

And on to the simulation...
You know what? i'll write about this later. i don't feel like going through that again. I'll just say that I don't EVER want to be a fast food service worker.

So during night games i was sneaking around near the creek and i must have inhaled something, cause i couldn't breathe very well (well, i could only get very small amounts of air) for a good five minutes (until i got water) and that was scary as heck. I've never had breathing problems so this was a new experience. scared the air outta me (literally ;) I tried to tell Austin, but i couldn't talk at all, so i had to tap him on the back and motion. Ugh. Just thinking of that gives me the shivers. I hope that never happens again.

*shivers* And on to a happier topic! =D

EDIT from journal entry, there's actually quite a long paragraph next, but i'll keep that to myself. (unless someone asks very nicely.... and that's only a maybe)

Well, the noise is finally starting to die down in this, the cabin of small annoying squirts, (JK, if any of the small annoying squirts ever read this, it's true, but i've always thought you guys are cool)

Which means i ought to go to bed.

Cheers!!

Well.... That was an adventure. Can't believe it's already been a week since i wrote this. (in my journal) it went by too dang fast. And that's just not fair. =P
Ah well.
I must not mope, but look forward to tomorrow!
Hopefully i'll put up day 3 then eh? =)

Youth For Liberty Camp 2014- Day the first

This is all transcribed from my personal journal, whenever these appear ** it means that I feel a portion of it is personal and i do not wish to share it at this time.

Youth For Liberty Camp- Day 1, June 9th 2014
Well, today has been awesome. Not only did i get to skip moving pipe and sleep in a bit, but i got to drive to one of my most favourite places on Earth with a few of my best friends.
I got a 26 out of 40 on the entrance exam, which determines who goes into the advanced and beginner classes, so that people aren't stuck learning stuff they already knew. Unluckily enough, (and this i didn't know till later) one needs a 27 to make it into the advanced class. i missed by one point.
We had two classes apart, and the two last classes together. the second to last class was on the book/film "We Were Soldiers Once... And Young" by LTG. Hal Moore. The class was taught by Adam Durfee, who started by asking if anyone knew what the symbols he'd drawn on the whiteboard meant. The symbols, being the officer and enlisted rank insignias of the United States Army, i knew, so I proceeded to amaze by listing them all off. (Okay, so i messed up a bit when it got past Sergeant First class, but there's like ten ranks with sergeant in them, and i didn't have those memorized)
The last class was taught by our keynote speaker, a man named Farley Anderson. He dressed as Benjamin Franklin, and brought these paintings that he'd commissioned, and taught us about them. I don't remember all of them, but the one that affected me the most was the one portraying Benedict Arnold. In the painting, Benedict Arnold is wearing a British uniform (the uniform of the enemy) and looking at a distorted view of himself in a window. Through the window one can see a family. But Arnold can't see past his own sad reflection. It shows we need to look beyond ourselves in order to find what we need. It was a very touching portrait.
Outside of class my friends and I formed this little group thing, (we weren't exclusive or anything, we were just almost always together) which included, (but was not limited to) Myself, Austin Brady, Ethan Fausett, Katie Jo Larsen and Chadwick Rogers. After dinner we taught Katie Jo how to play "Ninja destruction" and she loved it, so we had to defend ourselves from her attacks for the whole rest of the day.... But she's cute, so that isn't really a problem. =D
At camp they had night games every night, which most participated in. It was usually Capture The Flag that was played.
So Katie Jo and I are guarding opposite sides of the border cause we were on different teams. We were having a nice conversation when she must have decided that she was faster than me. She takes off after the prisoners, and I go after her cause I can't just let them go. It seems Katie underestimated my power. It wasn't too long before I tagged her, but I snagged my pinkie finger on her nametag and got myself a perfect L-shaped cut on it. So I get to act crippled and scarred for life... Which I am not, thankfully. =D
Despite the horrendous attack on my poor defenseless finger by that mean nametag (which I have hanging on my wall) no prisoners escaped while i was on watch. =D
Well, got to get to sleep if I want to be able to go to the early morning class tomorrow!
Cheers!

End of chapter.
Hope you enjoyed it! Days 2-4 coming soon! =D
